our story
Charlie’s Charity is a Wiltshire based sports charity set up by family and friends in the memory of Charlie Lamb who was tragically killed in a car accident at the age of 18 years on the A4 near Hungerford in September 2009.
Charlie was sports mad and in his younger school years attended Preshute Primary School, St Francis School in Pewsey and latterly St Johns School in Marlborough. He played sport from an early age and had a go at pretty much everything especially if it involved a ball! He played at County level in football and hockey and who knows what his sporting future might have been.
One of Charlie’s teachers from St Johns summed up Charlie perfectly “Charlie was a very talented sportsman and excelled especially at football which was his love and played a huge part in his life.
In all that Charlie did, he did with a smile on his face that warmed all who came into contact with him very deeply. This “just being Charlie” earned him great respect, popularity and love and quite simply, he was someone who people just wanted to be with”.
Following Charlie’s Celebration of Life service, when over £2,000 in donations was collected, we decided we had to turn this desperately sad situation into something positive and so Charlie’s Charity was established. The aims of the Charity are to help local clubs and individuals to make the most of their sporting abilities.
Sport is such a positive, healthy pastime that breaks down barriers and encourages friendship with people from all walks of life.
